H-E-B Announces $55.5 Million in Improvements to Three Houston-Area Stores

A Major Investment in Greater Houston

H-E-B, the San Antonio-based grocery chain that has served Texas for more than a century, has announced $55.5 million in planned improvements to three Houston-area stores. The investment underscores the company's continued commitment to the Greater Houston market, where it operates more than 100 stores.

The three stores slated for improvements are located in Pearland, Tomball, and Angleton, serving communities across the southern and northern reaches of the metropolitan area.

Pearland Store Renovations

The Pearland location, situated on Broadway Street, will undergo the most extensive renovation of the three projects. Plans include an expanded produce department, a larger deli and prepared foods section, and the addition of a True Texas BBQ counter. The store's footprint will grow by approximately 15,000 square feet, bringing the total to more than 90,000 square feet.

The renovation will also modernize the store's exterior, add improved traffic circulation in the parking area, and upgrade the pharmacy to include a dedicated consultation area.

Tomball Store Upgrades

In Tomball, H-E-B's store on Tomball Parkway will receive a comprehensive interior refresh, new energy-efficient refrigeration systems, and an expanded curbside pickup area to meet growing demand for online grocery ordering. The store will also add a larger selection of local and Texas-made products, reflecting the community's interest in supporting regional producers.

The Tomball project represents an investment of approximately $14 million and is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

Angleton Store Expansion

The Angleton store, the southernmost of the three locations, will see a significant expansion that adds a full-service meat department, a bakery, and a larger health and beauty section. The project also includes site improvements to enhance stormwater management and parking capacity.

Angleton has been one of H-E-B's fastest-growing markets south of Houston, and the expansion reflects the company's confidence in the region's continued growth.

What This Means for Houston Shoppers

The $55.5 million investment is part of a broader strategy by H-E-B to modernize its Houston-area footprint. In recent years, the chain has opened new stores in communities including Katy, Cypress, and the Heights, while upgrading existing locations to meet evolving shopper expectations.

For Houston-area residents, the improvements mean larger stores, expanded product selections, and enhanced services at three locations that serve as community hubs. The projects are also expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and add permanent positions at each store.

A Growing Texas Institution

H-E-B operates more than 400 stores across Texas and Mexico and has been recognized as one of the nation's top grocery retailers. The company's Houston division, headquartered in the city, employs more than 12,000 partners across the region.

The three renovation projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with each store remaining open during construction with temporary adjustments to store layout.
